PAK vs AFG 2021: Afghanistan Appoints Sri Lankan Batting Coach Against Pakistan Series
The Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) appoints a new Sri Lankan batting coach ahead of the Pakistan series 2021. However, the name of the coach was not disclosed. The ACB chief executive said the appointed batting coach was Sri Lankan.
Afghanistan will play a three-match ODI series against Pakistan in September this year. The new batting coach will join the team there. The Afghans will then play in Group 2 of the T20 World Cup, which starts in October.
Former Proteas cricketer Land Klausner will be the head coach of the Afghan team and all-rounder John Mooney will be the fielding coach. The Afghan board also recently appointed Aussie pacer Shaun Tait as bowling coach.
There have been rumors for some time that Sri Lankan cricketer Hasan Tilakaratne will take charge of the Afghan team. He is thought to be the batting coach of the Sri Lankan team. However, who will be appointed in the end will be known after the official statement of the ACB.
Hasan Tillakaratne led the Sri Lankan team. He was a member of the team that won the 1998 World Cup. He represented Sri Lanka from 1986 to 2004. Hasan Tillakaratne is currently in charge of the Sri Lankan women’s team. Prior to that, he was the part-time coach of the Lanka team in 2006. He has also been the head coach of the Lankan Under-19 and Sri Lankan Premier League.
