ICC Player of the Month Award: Shakib Al Hasan named ICC Player of the Month July 2021
Bangladesh’s Shakib Al Hasan was named the ICC Player of the Month in July 2021. Shakib, the world’s best Tiger all-rounder, has been selected for the first time in the new ICC award which started this year. Earlier, Mushfiqur Rahim wrote the first name for Bangladesh in this list.
The ICC confirmed the information in a press release on Wednesday (August 11th). This is the second time that a Bangladeshi cricketer has been named the ICC Player of the Month Apart from Shakib, Caribbean young spinner Hayden Wallace Jr. and Australian all-rounder Mitchell Marsh were in the running to be the best of July.
Shakib played in all three formats against Zimbabwe in July. Bangladesh whitewashed the hosts in the ODI series with his great performance. In the only Test, Shakib took 5 wickets in two innings with the ball.
Besides, Shakib Al Hasan took 6 wickets including 5 wickets in one ODI match. He also played an unbeaten inning of 96 runs with the bat.
Expressing his feelings after being nominated for the first time, Shakib Al Hasan told the ICC, “I am very happy to be selected as the best player of the ICC in July. I had a good tour against Zimbabwe that month. That is why this award is special for me.
Shakib further said, ‘I get the most joy and satisfaction if I can contribute to the victory of the team. I am very happy to be able to help Bangladesh succeed in the last few weeks.
West Indies captain Stephanie Taylor has been named the Queen of Cricket in July’s ICC Player of the Month. In July, West Indies all-rounder Hailey Mathews and Pakistan pacer Fatima Sana competed against Stephanie Taylor for the title of best cricketer.
